Our background is in eCommerce and AI engineering, and we’ve helped hundreds of commerce companies integrate AI into their existing tech stacks since 2017. Everywhere we looked, we saw the same pattern: customers and expectations had changed dramatically, but ecommerce technologies had not.
On the surface, search, the most important conversion channel, was evolving. Customers started speaking to computers in natural language. But beneath the surface, teams were still integrating traditional keyword or vector search engines. The search backend stayed messy and mostly manual: fixing attributes, rewriting queries, adjusting rankings, tagging images, repairing data by hand.
Search was just the visible symptom. The real problem was the hidden operational work required to keep it alive. So we stopped thinking only about “a better search engine” and started to fix both ends of the problem.
